About the Programme HORIZON’s 2020 SME INSTRUMENT

Are you a highly innovative, ambitious and passionate small or medium-sized enterprise with global ambitions and need mentorship and funding?

The SME Instrument constitutes one of the activities of the EU funding Programme «Horizon 2020», which aims to fund innovative projects that will help SMEs grow and expand their activities.

The SME Instrument is implemented in three phases with the aim of transforming disruptive ideas into concrete, innovative solutions with a European and global impact:

Concept

Carry out a feasibility study to verify the viability of the proposed disruptive innovation or concept.

Concept

 The SMEs will further develop its pottential through innovation activities, such as demonstration, testing, piloting, scaling up, and miniaturisation.
 Budget €500,000 – €2,500,000 (70% up to 100% of EU Grant)
 Duration 12 – 24 months

Phase 3 [Commercialisation]

Concept

SMEs will receive extensive support, training, mentorship and facilitating access to risk finance as the project is further polished into a marketable product. (Venture Capitals, Business Angels, etc.)

 

 

SMEs may apply to either Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the call.

It is recommended however to apply firstly to Phase 1 as this will facilitate procedures towards Phase 2 of the call.

There are no longer individual set topics that a proposal must fit into, the innovation challenge is open to any disruptive ideas.

Furthermore great emphasis is given on project results, economically and socially, both in the EU and even globally. This is reflected in increased emphasis on “impact” during the evaluation process (50% weight) and less so on “excellence” and “implementation” (25% weight on each).

All material and submission process is conducted in the English language.
